Charming Antique Japanese Shakudo Figural Brooch
What is Shakudo? To put it simply it is a Japanese technique of mixed metal alloys. Traditionally made with about 90% copper and 10% gold. Some of the first uses can be found in the decorative handguard on samurai swords, aka the tsuba.
This rare and charming Victorian Japanese Shakudo figural brooch dating back to the 19th century mounted in 14 karat yellow gold. The design comes alive with 3-dimensional details through the use of mixed metals crafted in silver with a gold overlay. This whimsical brooch is a fantastic example of the ancient Shakudo art form.
